The 15th Session of CLIVAR/IOC-GOOS Indian Ocean Region Panel will take plance on March 14-15, 2019 at Port Elizabeth, South Africa, alongside with the 9th Session of 15th annual meeting of the Indian Ocean Global Ocean Observing System Regional Alliance (IOGOOS); 9th annual meeting of the Indian Ocean Observing System (IndOOS) Resource Forum (IRF)；9th annual meeting of Sustained Indian Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research (SIBER) of IMBER/IOGOOS; 3rd meeting of the Second International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2) Steering Committee and the 7th meeting of the IOC Regional Committee for the Central Indian Ocean (IOCINDIO).

The overall schedule for the meetings is as below:

During the two-day IORP meeting, on 14th March, the IndOOS Review session will begin with presentations by IORP co-chairs summarising the Review process, synthesizing its results, and conveying the Review outcomes in terms of Actionable Recommendations towards the future development of IndOOS. Following this panel members will discuss strategies and resources for implementation of the Actionable Recommendations, alongside IO-GOOS members and the Indian Ocean Resources Forum.

On 15th March we will have a joint IORP-SIBER meeting, for which we invite 15-minute scientific presentations on Indian Ocean research from new IORP members as well as ideas for future projects, such as review papers, summer schools, capacity building workshops etc. We will conclude with the IORP business meeting to discuss the new WCRP and CLIVAR Science Plans, formation of task groups, future membership, and any other business.

2nd session: Chairs Lisa Beal, Roxy Mathew Koll: Discussion about Implementation and Resources for IndOOS, with IO-GOOS and IRF: Break-out groups around e.g. Actionable Recommendations or Observing platforms

Ideas for break-out groups on Implementation:
(1) Progressing IndOOS as a partnership among Indian Ocean rim countries: How do we promote and improve participation of rim countries, resource sharing, capacity building, and international partnerships?
(2) Expanding IndOOS into the coastal zone (boundary currents and upwelling): EEZ challenges and other logistics, sustainability 
(3) Observing system components: e.g. RAMA, BGC-Argo, subtropical boundary current arrays

3rd session: Chairs Lisa Beal, Roxy Mathew Koll: Discussion of Implementation and Resources for IndOOS, with IO-GOOS and IRF: Break-out groups, reporting, and wrap-up.

This will direct you to the Eventbrite website, where payment can be made by credit card.

You will be able to register for your respective chosen days of attendance, on a day-by-day basis. A daily registration fee of $76.16 Australian Dollars applies. Please check the conference schedule to identify which days you will need to register for.

The deadline for registration is 1 March 2019.

For catering purposes, please indicate if you have any dietary requirements.

Participants are kindly reminded that registration fees are required to be paid in advance of the conference via the Eventbrite payment link (above). When you first arrive please confirm your registration data and receive your conference badge along with other useful information at the registration desk, which will be located in the conference foyer and will be staffed at the following times:

• Wednesday 13 March 8am – 9am
• Thursday 14 March 8am – 9am
• Friday 15 March 8am-9am

The desk will have records of the days you have paid to be registered. If you arrive when the desk is unattended, please identify yourself to one of the meeting organisers as soon as possible.

Accomodations & Transportation

Accommodation bookings are the responsibility of participants. Participants are kindly advised to make their hotel and flight bookings as soon as possible.
The following accommodation notes are for your reference and guidance. Please note that they may be subject to change at the time of booking.

As the Nelson Mandela University is on the western edge of a suburb called Summerstrand which is isolated, there are no hotels in the immediate vicinity. A number of hotels are listed in the info booklet.

Important: A shuttle bus will be arranged to collect delegates outside the main entrance of the hotels listed below which will transport them to and from the conference venue. Delegates not staying at these hotels need to walk or obtain their own transport to these collection points.
It is possible to walk along the beach front (Marine Drive) and onto University Way where the conference venue is situated but this will take about 45 min. It is also easy to arrange a taxi.

Notes:
1. A shuttle service will be supplied on Monday at the conference closure to transfer the full delegation to the Ocean Science Campus where the SOLSTICE Robotics VIP Demonstration will be held starting at 18h00. At the closure of the event (20h00) shuttles will transfer all delegates back to the hotels.
2. A shuttle service will also be supplied to take those interested delegates to the Marine Robotics in-water Demo which will be held either in the ocean at Shark Rock or the NMU swimming pool – conditions dependent. 09h00 to11h00.
Shuttle bus transfers back to the hotel collection points will leave the conference venue 15 min after the daily closure.
