ClimDev | As part of the effort to address climate change challenges in Africa, the Climate for Development in Africa Program (ClimDev-Africa or the “Program”) was designed as a joint initiative of the African Development Bank (“AfDB” or the “Bank”), the Commission of the African Union (“AUC”) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (“UNECA”). The Program has been endorsed at regional meetings of African Heads of State and Government and by Africa’s Ministers of Finance, Planning, Economic Development, and the Environment. Its purpose is to explore actions required in overcoming climate information gaps, for analyses leading to adequate policies and decision-making at all levels.
ClimDev_AfriClimServ | A support from AfDB to African Climate Institutions to serve the first phase of ClimDev. 30 Millions US Dollars grant for such project to strengthen the capacity of ACMAD, ICPAC; DMC/SADC & AGRHYMET) 2011-2014 |

WASCAL | WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) is a large-scale research-focused program designed to help tackle this challenge and thereby enhance the resilience of human and environmental systems to climate change and increased variability. It does so by strengthening the research infrastructure and capacity in West Africa related to climate change and by pooling the expertise of ten West African countries and Germany.

DFID-Met Office Africa programme |
This project aims to provide improved knowledge and evidence on current and probable future climate conditions, for use by decision makers in Africa. It will also enhance the capacity of key African institutions to undertake climate science. Beneficiaries of the project will be scientists and researchers at meteorological institutions in Africa and the North; policy and decision makers in Africa; and donors interested in humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction and climate change in Africa. The DFID-Hadley Centre Climate Science Research Partnership (CSRP) will complement other DFID research initiatives such as 'Climate Change Adaptation in Africa' (CCAA) and 'Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation' (ESPA). It will also seek to liaise closely with the 'Climate for Development' (CLIMDEV) project which aims to improve the collection and provision of climate observations across Africa. |

AMMA2 | AMMA is an international interdisciplinary programme dealing with the West African Monsoon, its variability and its impacts on communities in the region.
Fennec - The Saharan Climate System | NERC consortium project 2010-2012 lead by the University of Oxford and involving the Universities of Leeds, Reading, Sussex and the Met Office. The aim of Fennec is to quantify and model boundary layer and aerosol processes over the Saharan 'heat low' region, the greatest dust region during summer. This is the most ambitious project ever to observe the Saharan climate system and the role of dust aerosols, involving a unique surface and aircraft field campaign with the FAAM BAe-146.

CORDEX | The COordinated Regional climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) is a framework aimed at improving coordination of international efforts in Regional Climate Downscaling research.

CCAFS |
The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) is a 10-year research initiative launched by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP). CCAFS seeks to overcome the threats to agriculture and food security in a changing climate, exploring new ways of helping vulnerable rural communities adjust to global changes in climate. |
