CLIVAR participated in IIOSC2022
The International Indian Ocean Science Conference 2022 (IIOSC2022) organized virtually from 14 to 18 March 2022, sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Govt. of India and co-hosted by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), and National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa University and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). The conference aims to advance our understanding of the physical, chemical, biological, geological and climatological aspects of the Indian Ocean in order to enhance its role on the socio-economy of the region, as well as to translate the knowledge of the Indian Ocean for the benefit of the population residing in the countries on the rim. The conferences consisted of five plenary sessions and panel discussions, 14 parallel sessions, 4 interactive poster sessions and workshops for Early-Career Scientists (Programme and Abstracts). Members of the CLIVAR/IOC-GOOS Indian Ocean Region Panel (IORP) actively involved in the conference, through being speakers and panelists for plenary sessions and panel discussions, co-chairing parallel sessions and presenting their research via oral and poster presentations, focusing on the thematical areas of climate and monsoon variability, inter-basin interactions, marginal seas and boundary currents, impacts of climate change and extreme events, ocean value chain – observations to services, as well as the possible contribution to the UN Ocean Decade.
A poster was submitted by ICPO under Session 2: Impacts of climate change on the Indian Ocean, by highlighting the CLIVAR’s work in the Indian Ocean during the past decades, particularly on the contribution to the development and implementation of Indian Ocean Observing System (IndOOS) and the capacity building activities, including the initiation of the Indian Ocean Youth Ambassador.
The 18th Session of IORP took place in the following week of the IIOSC2022, in conjunction with the annual meetings of IIOE-2 Steering Committee, IndOOS Resource Forum (IRF), IOGOOS, SIBER, IOCINDIO and SOLAS-India.
